Bay Area born and raised AK [Soulful Spinner], has always had an ear for rhythm and groove throughout his life around the San Francisco and surrounding Bay Area. One day in 1993 at the age of eleven he stumbled upon a game show where they had a DJ cutting it up on Technics turntables right before the commercial break. Immediately intrigued by the sounds being made from moving the record back and forth on the turntable, he picked up a couple used belt-drive decks from the thrift store.Â
It wasn't until a few years later when he finally had the opportunity to get a pair of Technics 1200s MK2 decks. With the help of his grandmother who truly believed in him from the start, his first DJ mixer and amplifier were Radio Shack brands from the early 90s, but they did the job and helped him learn a great deal about mixing tracks together. He would often catch public transportation taking the bus to downtown San Jose where the underground record shops were located. Record digging became such an addiction that he would regularly spend hours digging through records at thrift stores and anywhere else that had vinyl records up until the shops closed for the day.
His first Digital Audio Workstation [DAW] was Propellerheads Reason, but he has since moved to Ableton Live and PreSonus Studio One. He has always loved Hip-hop, but his favorite genre to mix is House music. There has definitely been a lot of musical influence for him throughout the late 80s and 90s including many jazz artists from the earlier days. You can catch him mixing Deep Underground music for the people.
